AWSA  BOD Resolution #1 - Masters Mens Ratings - 2/26/2009
As per the BOD's request, on behalf of our Chair Doug Robbins, attached please find the MM ratings for all events and overall with the new ones in bold red as approved by our Skiers Qualification Committee.  Discussion is open until March 8, noon EST for the ten day period stipulated by our bylaws.  Please do not vote until the actual ballot is emailed out as your vote will not be recorded. Thanks, Jim

Masters Men Ratings

Notes that might prove helpful follow with thanks to Jeff:

1. The MMT rating is based on 7% of the total number of Men 3 & 4 trick scores.

2. The MMJ rating is also based on 7% of the total number of Men 3 & 4 jump
scores while adding 8 feet to all jump scores for Men 4. By including Men 4 jump scores, we have a larger population sample which gives us a more accurate rating.

3. All other jump distances are calculated off of the standard adjustment we have always used. In this case, 54kph-5' is the standard we used to get the initial or base MM rating. We then added 20 feet for the MM 57kph-5.5' rating, subtracted 8' off the standard 54kph-5' for the MM 51kph-5' rating and subtracted 8' more for the MM 48kph-5' rating.

4. The 54kph-5' Open rating is different from that for 54kph-5' MM because we used Men 3 & 4 scores to calculate the MM ratings, not any Open ratings which are based on Men 1 & 2 scores.

5.  Also included on the attached are two corrected Open ratings in bold blue and one that was initially omitted in bold purple.

The Southern Region votes NO TO WEIGHTING PROPOSAL FOR RECORD CAPABILITY TOURNAMENT.

As many of you are aware there has been an on going push by some in AWSA to have Record Class Tournament count for two scores toward skier’s rankings and Class C Tournament scores count only once. This issue will again be discussed at the up coming USA National Board Meeting this year. After much discussion, The Southern Region voted no to this proposal at the Regional Meeting in Atlanta, Ga. on January 10th. Our four Southern Region Representatives, Gene Davis, EVP, Chris Eller, Nat Dir, Lyman Hardy, Nat Dir, and Jim Jaquess, Nat Dir, will take a no vote to the National meeting.

There are five Regions in AWSA and it looks like most Regions are leaning toward not using Record Tournaments as two scores; however anything can happen at the National Board Meeting. We will keep you updated.

Board Approves
Officials' Clinic Fee Changes

Officials' Clinic Fee Changes

At its annual mid-winter meeting in January, the USA Water Ski board of directors voted to approve a new two-tiered clinic fee structure. As a result of increasing costs in shipping, printing and labor, officials' clinic organizers will now have the option of receiving hard copies or electronic copies of the clinic materials. USA Water Ski will continue to make the clinic materials available electronically for a $10 fee per participant, while hard copies of the materials will be available for a $15 fee per participant.

In the past there was a $10 fee per member to participate in a sanctioned officials' certification clinic (i.e. safety, judges & scorers, driver, etc.). This fee was intended to cover USA Water Ski's overhead and labor costs to maintain, produce and ship the clinic materials that each participant received. The $10 fee was established more than 20 years ago, and had never been raised.

 DRIVERS’ POLICY MANUAL

There is now a new drivers policy manual available online through USA Water Ski website. There have been questions about drivers getting credit as a tournament when they attend a driver’s clinic. Credit is now given as indicated in new manual. View, download, and print copy at link below.

If link does now work, copy and paste in browser. Link may require Adobe Acrobat
